can I my pastures become more drought tolerant.
Ans yes, by imorioving your soil biology and hence your soil structure, you will be able to capture mopre water and significantly improve your watrer holding capacity in the ground in the long run.

How does managing soil health impact my horses health?
Just like research shows direct links to healthy narural foods and human health supporting the best possible gut microbiome with nutrient dense clean food, horses and other livestock are no different adn will also thrive with these clean, high quality inputs. this will improve diasease resistance and overall health.

Soils (consulting and lab services here?)
We have heard ot said that “Without soils there is no life and without life there are no soils”. We are dependent on this thin, fragile, and highly degraded interface for our health and existence. There are many different ways to add biology to your soils be it for the garden or pasture. Improving soil biology, which has been largely neglected over the past century, improves nutrient cycling and vastly reduces input costs and labour. With increased nutrient cycling comes improved nutrition and thereby improved disease resistance and health. Your health is directly reflected by your soils health. We would all wish to live in a healthy and diverse ecosystem with abundant biodiversity, nutrient dense food, clean water and clean air. We can help you on your journey to do your small part in achieving this.
We offer direct client consulting services to help you set up or improve your farm, or patch of land, be it several acres, or an urban garden. This consultation will include a overview of the property with a client guided walk to evaluate concerns and the client is supplied with a comprehensive final report with possible short and long term goals and plans to improve the set up of the facility along with improving forage quality. We will test for soil compaction, water penetration rates, and do a few microscopic assessments of the soil microbiology to help assessing the weak areas of the land and help to improve long term planning and healing to maximize the health and abundance of the property. Moinimum charges that include travel expenses, a minumum of f hours on farm consulting and an additional three hours for lab services and and report compilation. The client will be provided with a comprehensive digital report and an additional paper one if required.
Lab services
We are currently working on the Soil Food Web certification and development of laboratory set up and plan to be certified to offer soil laboratory services along with soil consulting services under the Soil Food Web (reg trade mark) banner as well
Unfortunaltly we are not set up yet at the moment, but will happily refer you to a certified SFW lab to have your microbiology asessed. Contact us for more informatiuon or a referral.
By having your soils or compost assesed, you will gain valuable information to see how you are doing and where you need to make improvements to enhance and possibly accelerate your soil building. As you are improving your property, it is good to get a baseline when you start and check the progress on an anual basis
Do you have a problem area? we can do a microscopic assesment of your microbiology for you to see what is going on and suggest how to amend this.
Pasture management and Design
Horses are often seen as destructive grazers and many modern domestic horses suffer from obesity, ulcers and other maladies. This information addresses these factors and many more as it intends to show you how to manage and or set up pastures, to rebuild degraded pastures, address weed pressures, manage parasites with minimal to no chemical inputs that can be hazardous to your horses overall health, improve drought resistance, improve pasture forage quantity and nutrition, and overall improve the well being of the land and all it supports.
We are currently offering workshops or a live, on line version of these, and are in the process of developing self directed and mentored online courses aimed directly at horse owners and small hobby farmers with livestock. There is excitement about the regenerative agriculture movement however, most of the information is geared towards large, intensive crop farming that if animals are present at all, tends to almost exclusively be large ruminants. Many people find this daunting to scale down. Combining Regenerative and Permaculture design princiles allows us to vastly improve our land. There are techniques that can use horses along with other hpbby farm animals if present, as tools to improve both soil health, health of the lands ecology and inturn the health of the livesock. This builds a resiliant system for all.
